July 10, 2010

Day 1, and what a day. Awoke at 0300 and left for Tulsa. Got to the Tulsa Airport to find out my first flight was about 30 minutes late. Landed in Dallas, switched terminals and made my connecting flight with ten minutes to spare. Landed in Des Moines Iowa at about 1110.
Was met at the airport by a lot of supporters, grabbed my baggage and onto a motor home which drove us up to Ames, Iowa. Tonight we begin with a mile long run at 630 and recieve the torch for the begining of the Final Leg. Then it is off to dinner later tonight, and Omaha in the morning.

As Time Draws Near

It is now a week away from the Final Leg members getting together in Ames Iowa, to start our road to Lincoln.
During the past month a lot of things have changed and some of you might not be aware of. While playing softball, I ended up hurting my right knee. Come to find out, I did a little more damage than usual (Getting older I guess) and ended up having to have surgery.
Surgery was performed June 22, and I returned to see the doctor on June 29th. Even though, according to the surgeon, I was about a week ahead of what I should have been, he would still not release me for full time work. Therefore I could not be released to make the Final Leg run team.
I notified Michael Teem who is the national LETR coordinator, as well as Mark Wollmerhauser who is the coordinator for LETR Oklahoma, of the bad news. Well true to LETR and Special Olympics fashion they were both upset that I could not run and both were more concerned with my health than me being able to run. I was still accepted with open arms and asked to still be a part of the Final Leg team.
It has even been hinted upon, that since bad luck fell upon me this year, that there was a vey good possibility that I would be nominated for next years International Final Leg to take place in Athens, Greece. I will keep my fingers crossed.
I will start writing again in a week, as we all meet together in Ames, Iowa, and I plan on writing everyday until the National games begin.
Thank you all for following this blog.
